The One Move I can do RX! (and why)

I have been doing CrossFit style workouts for over five years.

I don’t do it because I’m naturally good at it.  The truth is I rarely get that precious little "RX" next to my name on our gym’s whiteboard.

I do it for a lot of other reasons which is a whole different blog post. But there is one movement that I have become pretty proficient at… That movement is the Double Under.

If you don’t know what a double under is, it’s a jump rope move where the rope goes around twice every time you jump. Double unders help with coordination, full body conditioning, and they push my cardio endurance to the limit.

One of the key elements to mastering double unders is having the right rope. Early on I ordered my own rope so that I could have it the exact length I needed it.

Then my friend and former trainer, Ian started a super cool company called Double Under Wonder.

There are several things I love about my DUW rope...

1. They cut it the exact length I need based on my height. Gone are the days of searching through my gym’s jump ropes to find one that (sort of) fits me.

2. The handles rotate smoothly, and the looped end design adapts to my wrist position so I get full range of motion and a super speedy spin on the rope.

3. They offer wide range of fun colors and patterns so my rope is customized to me! No one else at my gym has a black and pink chevron handle on one side and polka dots on the other. I know exactly which one is mine when I see them all lying on the floor!

Even if you don’t plan to master the double under, jumping rope is a great way to get in a workout when you’re on the road this summer or squeezing in a routine around the kids inflatable pool.

Have a great summer!

P.S.  If you're looking for some jump rope tips, here are some things to keep in mind while you're jumping.  This image is from Double Under Wonder, but I think I recognize the model, and hey, isn't that a Bolder Band? :)
