It’s 11:10 a.m. on a sunny day in Genesee, Colorado surrounded by tall pine trees and a view of the Continental Divide. It’s here that I watch a woman manipulate her way across a cargo net suspended 30 feet in the air. About halfway across the 40-foot long net, she stopped to gather her strength – both physical and mental – and the six women watching with me cheered her on. That amazing woman, and the ones who joined her for our Ropes Adventure Course outing, ended their day feeling like superheroes and ready to conquer anything life threw their way.
As the owner of a company that challenges women to jump out of their comfort zone, I have witnessed hundreds of women feeling more empowered, invigorated and inspired. Vela Adventures provides Colorado women with all-inclusive outdoor adventures designed to make it extremely easy for busy ladies to accomplish an exciting adventure without having to worry about a thing. At Vela Adventures, we do all the planning including interviewing instructors, renting necessary equipment, monitoring weather conditions, providing drinks and snacks, picnic lunch, a dedicated photo link and more. We understand how busy women are and want to make trying an adventure as easy as possible.
I, myself, am one of those crazy, busy moms. I wanted an easy way to try something new (like whitewater kayaking) but I didn’t have the bandwidth to research reputable instructors, organize a time/date for friends to join, scout the location for water quality, bathrooms, etc. I just wanted it to be easy and know that I would be with other like-minded women who could end up being good friends. Vela Adventures was born to meet the desires of women like me who were looking for an easy way to be adventurous.
Since 2013, we have filled a gap in the Colorado adventure sports industry by organizing adventures just for women. We have shared in some amazing adventures with hundreds of wonderful ladies including indoor skydiving, archery, whitewater rafting, rock climbing, mountain biking, horseback riding, standup paddle boarding and more. And, we love to pair these adventures with five-star perks like yoga, painting, wine tasting and campfire cookouts. One of the most rewarding thing about my job is watching friendships form, grow and thrive through our adventures. We find that women who are looking to try something new all have something in common, and friendships are easily formed.
Vela Adventures also loves partnering with other women-owned companies like Bolder Bands that embrace the “bold” that lives in all of us. As the outdoor adventure industry continues to evolve it is our goal to ensure that women have an easy option to live a “bolder” life through adventure.
