Bolder Band Team Member--Cortney Williams

by Amy Crouse May 11, 2015

There are many people who help build the team and brand of Bolder Band Headband, but one woman has her fingerprint specifically on the look of presentation of our beautiful bands. I would love for you to meet my friend and Bolder Band Graphic Artist Cortney Williams.  Cortney has helped us define the look of Bolder Bands with her artistic style and voice. She designed the beautiful Bolder Band packaging that inspires and displays the beauty of the Bolder Band and has created specific fabric patterns such as the popular Petal Party and Purple People Pleaser bands.

We met Cortney about two years ago when she was tasked with helping us launch our branding. Cortney is a transplant to Colorado from Southern California. She went to graphic arts school at Point Loma Nazarene University, California State Fullerton and the Art Institute of Colorado.  “I like to always be taking classes,” she says. Cortney also has experience as the Magazine Art Director and Fashion Print Marketing. “My passion for print and type design began when I was in 11. I took a calligraphy class and it opened up a whole new world for me.  I got interested in typography and loved sketching words and letters, long before you used a computer to do it.”

A few fun facts about Cortney:

Graphic inspiration:   I draw inspiration from all over: music, posters, documentaries, fashion and the Colorado scenery.  “I have always had an interest in signage and product design from a young age.  I did several projects in high school on designers that fanned the flame- one on Frank Lloyd Wright’s graphic art pieces (which still influence me) and one on Jill Thayer, a prominent female graphic artist and package designer in the city I grew up in.”

Active Inspirations:  I’m an avid skier, mountain biker, hiker and backpacker.  I fell in love with the outdoors when I moved to Colorado in 2003.  Colorado’s outdoor beauty inspires me: the jagged, conceptual lines of the Flatirons on Boulder; the patterns mirrored angles; the colors of the lake at the Maroon Belles and the craggy shadows cast by fourteeners. I have yet to summit in Telluride. Cortney has been married for 18 years and has two beautiful children who she loves to do all kinds of outdoor activities together.

Personal connection to Bolder Band: I’ve been cursed with an abnormally large amount of hair.  Until I nabbed my first Bolder Band, I had never been able to find a headband that would stay put during my activities.  Now I can freely bang out a CrossFit workout without even adjusting it!

Favorite thing I’ve designed for Bolder Band:  The illustration of our Flexing Girl Icon -- It’s actually an illustration of our founder, Amy Crouse!  I feel like it’s a spot-on representation her Bold, Beautiful, tenacious and powerful self.

Favorite Bolder Band: White Reflective BiggerBand. “It keeps me warm while skiing! Plus, it matches my pants, goggles and helmet.”

We are so grateful for Cortney and her amazing knack for design that keeps Bolder Band looking good all the time!!
