Lindsay's Story...

by Amy Crouse February 19, 2015 19 Comments

Earlier this week we asked you to share your Bolder Band experience with us and send me pictures.  Lindsay responded with such an awesome story, and I just HAD to share it with everyone.

Lindsay is part of our band of Bold Beautiful women, and we should all be inspired by her optimism, and drive.

Lindsay could have let some rough circumstances bring her down, but she had the strength to stay positive, and respond with joy...She's amazing, and I hope you'll take a moment to read her story...

"Hello,

My name is Lindsay Skalski. I know in your email you said you wanted pictures of people playing sports and why they liked wearing their Bolder Bands. Unfortunately, I have not been able to participate in any sports or activities in the last 2 years due to an injury at work as an Elementary PE teacher. From the initial injury I also developed a nervous system disorder. I am wheelchair bound and only have the use of one of my arms. I do not write this to make you feel bad I just wanted to give you some of the back story.

Over the last two years I have been to countless doctors and hospitals and endured multiple surgeries and treatment procedures. During that time my hair was always in my face but I couldn't put it in a ponytail because I have only 1 functioning arm. I started looking for headbands that wouldn't give me a headache from being too tight. I also needed it to stay in place and not constantly slide off my head. I saw your bands online and figured I would give them a shot. These are the first headbands that have stayed in place and have not given me a headache. They have been a lifesaver for all my doctors trips and treatment visits. The plus is that you have many bright and bold colors, which I am a huge fan of. The more colorful the better!!!

Since I have been wheelchair bound I have been decorating my chair for different holidays and occasions. If you've got to "roll", you might as well roll in style!!! I have been able to color coordinate my Bolder Bands in with my wheel chair designs which has been so much fun and all my friends love seeing my next outfit choice. These latest treatments I have even been able to talk my mom and the nursing staff to get into the colorful spirit and join in. The whole staff did a "Funky Fun Friday" just for me. They all dressed in colorful clothes and my mom and I rocked our Bolder Bands! The nursing staff have been turned on to Bolder Bands and one of them purchased one for herself.

I know that this is not what you asked for but I felt like I wanted to reply and tell you thanks for helping me get through some tough times with your product. It has made it a little easier. I do look forward to the day when I get better and can get back to being active and playing sports where I can also use my BBands. Until that day comes I will just have to rock my Bolder Bands in the hospitals and doctors offices to bring joy to the nurses! Keep up the great work and the bold neon colored bands!!!"

Sincerely,

Lindsay Skalski

Everyone here at Bolder Bands is rooting for you Lindsay!  Thanks so much for sharing your story, and inspiring the rest of the Bolder Band community

Keep being the Bold, Beautiful, You!

Lindsay’s story brought an awareness of how we often take so many things for granted. It truly inspired me and I was so touched by her story. Your bands are the best and they bring joy to many women.

What an awesome story, Lindsay! Thank you for sharing and inspiring all of us who read your story. I couldn’t agree more about Bolder Bands being the first headband I’ve ever worn that doesn’t give me a headache and that doesn’t slip off. Combine that with the gorgeous, stylish prints – for action and/or fashion – and I find myself looking for more occasions to wear headbands!

She is truly a joyful and inspiring person. I pray that she regains more mobility, but I know no matter what she will power on. Like her, I love my bolder headbands! Yes, colorful, wonderful stay on your head, no matter what, bands.

I think all of us bolder women should donate bands to women like this courageous woman. Cancer fighters or to any woman who’s going through a rough patch. They could put their wish lists on the site and we could pick from it and donate it. Please and thank you.

Lindsay,
You are of utmost strength and determination. As a fellow teacher, I am proud of the example you are setting for children everywhere! “No matter our circumstances, or what life hands you, never give up”. I pray that God continues to bless you with fine recovery. “To teach is to touch a life forever”, and you have truly done so. Keep rock’n your bands, and most of all keep rock’n your positive attitude!
Most Sincerely,

GREAT STORY!!! Best wishes, hope, and encouragement to Lyndsay! I don’t have enough hair to keep my BBands in place, unless I pull them down to my eyebrows ;) I know how Lyndsay must feel, having her physical “train” derailed, as I am going through it too. It’s the little things that make our days brighter…and having something like Bolder Bands contribute to making just one little thing easier to deal with? That’s my sunshine on a cloudy day :)
