Grampy's Wisdom Part Two

by Amy Crouse December 09, 2013

Last Monday, I shared a couple nuggets of wisdom from my Grampy about being prepared. This week I wanted to share one of the natural results of being prepared, and that is you are free to be generous.

Grampy (and Grammy) were prepared for the worst so they could experience the best: financial generosity. You don’t have to be rich to give. I watched them give to so many people, and most of the time anonymously. It wasn’t a big production; it was a natural over flow of the heart. They gave to family, friends, church and the community. More than one time watched them give away their minivans to people in need.

My grandparents were also emotionally generous: they loved all of their children’s spouses, grandchildren’s spouses and all of their children like their own. They lavished upon everyone the sense of belonging.

Jesus says it best in Matthew 12: “Out of the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks.” Grampy’s heart overflowed and affected all of those around him with his kindness and unselfish lavishness.
