Technology is fascinating and helpful… and sometimes a crutch.
I know with kids how tempting it is to plug kids in to technology to get a little peace and quiet. When I see kids at a soccer field playing on a smart phone instead of watching the game or playing themselves, or at church playing Candy Crush, it is very sad. I have to implore you that it is OK for them to be a little bored. The same goes for adults.
Go outside and look at the bugs, lay on the grass and stare at the clouds, reflect on your day quietly. It might be uncomfortable at first, and your kids might complain, and that is OK. Try setting the timer for 30 minutes technolog-free a day. Then play happens. Thinking happens. True relaxation happens.
Boredom will grow creativity. Boredom will allow us to think and process and grow.
Put the technology down, back away and free your mind.
Be Quiet. Be Bored. Be Bold.
