Let It Snow!

by Amy Crouse December 04, 2013

According to the weather reports we are going to have a lot of snow to deal with the next couple of days, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get your sweat on. Here are some ideas to burn some calories:

According to Harvard Medical School there are all kinds of activities to burn some energy. Some of these activities we do anyway, so in 30 minutes a 155 pound person can burn:

  • 223 calories: shoveling snow
  • 223 calories: chopping and splitting wood by hand
  • 167 calories: Operating a snow blower walking
  • 298 calories: snow shoeing
  • 260 calories: sledding, luge or toboggan
  • 260 calories: ice skating
  • 130 calories: child care, bathing, feeding etc
  • 149 calories: playing with kids, moderate effort
  • 186 calories: cleaning rain gutters

Check out other ways you can increase your everyday workout if you are snowed in or just around the house:  http://www.health.harvard.edu/newsweek/Calories-burned-in-30-minutes-of-leisure-and-routine-activities.htm
